Overview

Maians is a 3D avatar system made to carry one identity across games, metaverses, and live events. An avatar is not just a character model here: it holds a customizable wardrobe, an AI-generated persona that can act on its owner's behalf, and an optional verified identity for trading real-world assets without revealing who you are. It shipped on Vanar Chain in 2024.

Challenges

Avatars are easy to make and hard to scale. A character that looks right in a marketing render has to hold up when tens of thousands of them share one space, on hardware nobody controls, while staying customizable down to the individual garment. Maians also had to work as identity infrastructure rather than decoration — portable between environments, and carrying its owner's wardrobe and persona wherever it goes.

Solution

Rather than build scaling infrastructure from scratch, the avatar system was integrated into MetaGravity's existing gaming hub in February 2024, with Vanar Chain handling ownership and transactions at the time. That split the problem three ways: MetaGravity carried concurrency, Vanar carried the ledger, and the project's own effort went into the avatars — the rig, the art pipeline, a wardrobe system that keeps thousands of garment combinations cheap to render, and the persona layer that gives each Maian a backstory.

Results

  • Deployed in production at over 20,000 concurrent users, load-tested across 40,000 human and networked AI participants.
  • Shown running at GDC San Francisco in March 2024, on Vanar Chain.
  • Shipped with an opt-in verified identity, so holders can trade real-world assets without exposing who they are.
  • Launched alongside a marketplace of outfits and accessories that expands on a rolling basis.

Conclusion

Maians ships as identity infrastructure rather than a collectible. The avatar you build carries your wardrobe, your verified identity, and a persona that can act for you into whichever environment supports it. The scale work is what makes that credible — an identity you can only use in an empty room is not an identity.
