Overview

Jetpack Hyperleague is an arcade endless runner. You play an alien bot on a jetpack, threading corridors and tunnels while dodging obstacles, traps, and the machines hunting you — collecting coins and chasing a place on the global leaderboard. Power-ups hand out temporary invincibility, speed, or magnetism, and new characters unlock as you go. Big Immersive designed and built it in house: the game design, the courses, the flight model, and the art.

Challenges

An endless runner has to survive two things. The first is reach — the same game had to run on a phone, on desktop, and inside a browser tab, which is the hardest of the three: no install, an unknown machine, and a player who leaves if it does not start. The second is repetition. A run is over in a couple of minutes and the whole product is the run, so a small set of parts has to keep producing situations the player has not seen before, or the game is finished the first evening.

Solution

Both problems are answered by building the run out of pieces rather than levels. Obstacles, traps, and pursuing machines are modular, so the course assembles differently every time and difficulty scales with the run instead of being authored ahead of it. On top of that, three layers of variation pull in different directions: power-ups change the next ten seconds, coins and upgrades change the next few runs, and unlockable characters and the global leaderboard give a reason to come back next week. Shipping the same project to six targets — Android, iOS, PC, Mac, Linux, and WebGL — is what makes the browser build a front door rather than a port.

Results

  • Shipped to six platforms from one project: Android and iOS, PC, Mac, Linux, and an in-browser WebGL build.
  • First published in October 2023 and still in active release — version 2.5 shipped in January 2025.
  • Global leaderboards, unlockable characters, and a power-up system of invincibility, speed, and magnetism.
  • Runs on Android 9.0 and up, rated suitable for everyone, with a 1v1 multiplayer mode in development.

Conclusion

This is the most verifiable thing in the portfolio, and that is the point of it. The rest of this work has to be described; Jetpack Hyperleague can be downloaded and played, on whichever of six platforms is nearest to hand. A fifteen-month run of updates on a free arcade title is its own kind of evidence — it says the studio ships, and then keeps shipping.
